clikbrik

Clikbrik started as a collaboration between friends. We’re now on our second prototype, have design and utility patents, and are ramping up for an initial run of production units.

What is clikbrik?

Clikbrik reinvents the metronome for professional and aspiring drummers. By controlling it entirely with drum sticks, musicians don’t have to stop playing in order to stay in time. As a result, they can focus on the music instead of messing with their gear.

Design inspiration

The idea came from a simple workaround and some duct tape.

Traditional metronomes are typically a plastic box with a small screen and lots of buttons. Using them involves stopping what you’re doing, focusing your attention on the device, and pressing buttons until you have the tempo you want. This all takes time and attention away from playing music, connecting with other players, and being in the performance.

Mobile apps on a phone are no better. You have to pick up the phone, find and launch the app, and tap buttons to get the right tempo - all while avoiding notifications and other apps calling for your attention.

Why does it have to be so hard?

Konrad Meissner, my friend and co-founder, was on stage performing a show and asked that question. He had a small plastic box with lots of buttons. With help from a stage tech, he made a small pad of duct tape and stuck it to his metronome. This way he could just hit it with a drum stick and it would work.

Simple fix. Just hit it.

That little pad of duct tape sparked a new idea. Why not make a metronome you can use with drum sticks, that doesn’t take attention away from playing music, and keeps you in the rhythm and performance.
