The Figurative Home
What’s a good user interface for a thermostat that wants to be a controller for HVAC, security, lights, locks and more?
The ‘Figurative Home’ is a design concept for a ‘Whole Home’ UX. It was created for the Honeywell Home M5 Smart Thermostat announced at CES 2020.
I led initial concept definition and design direction, guiding a team of 3 designers, and working directly with our company president and chief technology officer.
The idea is simple – reflect what’s going on inside and outside the home in a simple, charming and somewhat playful way. Touch the screen or turn the dial to make a change.
CES 2020
The Figurative Home UI was announced at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show with the M5 Series thermostats, winning a CES 2020 Innovation Award.
”These new smart thermostats forever shift expectations of home temperature control. The intelligent home management system monitors air quality, water leaks, energy management and security. It’s a whole home guardian that helps save energy and simplify the smart home.”
