Honeywell Home
The Honeywell Home mobile app is the flagship consumer app for a $6B global business with devices installed in over 150M homes.
When I started, the app had just launched with support for one thermostat, significant bugs, and an app store rating below 2-stars.
After 4 years, the app had over 1M registered users, supported over 10 devices and multiple third-party smart home integrations, was available in over 16 countries, and had achieved a 4.6 star rating.
My role
I led design and creative direction for the app. Working with executives, product managers and multiple engineering teams, we supported over 10 new connected product launches across North America and Europe.
Highlights:
Grew registered users from low 100’s to over 1 million
Improved App Store rating from below 2 stars to 4.6 stars
Supported 10 new connected product launches in North America and Europe
Built and managed a 7-member design team across US and India development centers
User Research & Testing
Design research, usability and human factors specialists were key members of the app design team and were engaged on every new hardware device project. I drove an end-to-end customer journey approach and mindset across the design teams, and with our partners and stakeholders. We conducted 100’s of customer sessions at customer’s homes, offices, in our usability lab and remotely using tools like usertesting.com.
Honeywell Home Design System
The Honeywell Home design system started with the mobile app but quickly extended into the on-device user interface.
On-Device Design Language
In addition to the app, I led end-to-end UX design and delivery for many Honeywell Home branded products, including: Smart Home Security; Water Leak and Freeze Detector; T5, T9 and T10 Smart Thermostats; M5 Classic and M5 Plus Smart Thermostats.
Consumer Electronics Show 2018
The app was the centerpiece of Honeywell’s 2018 CES booth, for the first time featuring products across the full range of the Honeywell comfort, security and awareness portfolios all supported by a single app.
The big vision was realized at last. This moment also marked my transition into a new role, passing the torch to a new design leader coming up the ranks.
